Both Energy And Body | by Jaclyn Lanae
Soul Craft: It's time to come to the circle to begin
What is an Energy Body and How Can We Work With It?
In this overly-constructed, terrestrial world, it’s easy to get caught up in the matter of things. The physicality. The perspective that unless we can see or touch it, it isn’t real.
But of course, we know that isn’t true. The fact that much of the patriarchal, capitalistic, misogynistic nightmare we’re living in is founded in belief systems is perfect evidence. Rarely are we encouraged to look beyond this physical reality to find or create new solutions to these age-old problems.
Everything in our Universe—literally, everything—is actually made of energy, and therefore quite malleable. As Albert Einstein famously noted:
“Everything is energy and that’s all there is to it.”
The Illusion of Solidity
Perhaps obviously, then, this is true of our bodies and our realities. Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one. Part of that persistence is the "averaging" that physics does to make things feel solid to us, and part of it is our own habits—from thought patterns to social traditions.
The very cells and atoms that give us shape and form are energy. Our bodies are energy. But we also carry within us another "energy body": the one created by our thoughts, emotions, and belief systems.
Ancient healing and spiritual practices have long acknowledged the energy of our soul selves—in chakras, auras, and the like—and the power to balance these energies to affect healing in our physical lives.
The Science of Mindset
Western medicine has also come to accept that there is healing power in our self-talk. According to "A Psychological Exploration of the Power of Our Mindset and Its Influence on Physiological Health," published in the National Library of Medicine:
"...our mindset's power is so strong that it influences our physiological health... one can manipulate the mind to think in ways that are beneficial or detrimental to one's health."
The significant takeaway is that our thoughts and feelings have a powerful impact on our realities. We can affect personal, relational, and communal emotional healing by putting conscious intention into how we manage our energy.
Revolutionary Perspective
As Einstein put it, “The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.”
This change is a shift in perspective. Telling a woman’s story from a woman’s point of view, yours—as Carol P Christ teaches—is a revolutionary act because we stop looking at our energy from “out there.” Like time, energy, and light, we begin to experience ourselves in a new reality changed by our perception.
Dismantling the Narrative
We can empower ourselves to participate in dismantling patriarchy by actively choosing to reject the narrative it feeds us. To untangle ourselves from subconsciously programmed beliefs, we have to seize our power and tell ourselves the actual truth:
- The Lie: Men are more spiritually adept or powerful.
The Truth: Patriarchy knows how powerful we are, and it fears it. - The Lie: We need men to be fulfilled and happy.
The Truth: We can make our lives blissful and complete in our own right. - The Lie: Our value is in what we can produce.
The Truth: Our value is inherent; we double down on what gives us pleasure.
The Power of Pleasure
Our pleasure is a weapon. Activating it redirects our energy to come from an empowered place rather than a weakened one.
- Music that delights us.
- Art that brings us joy.
- Conversations that ignite us.
- Movement that reconnects us to the earth.
We get to remind ourselves of our own value every chance we get. Whether it is dancing through the day to re-activate our chi or celebrating a sister’s success, these acts are de-programming the patriarchal bullshit that tells us we are without value.
In these moments of conscious gratitude, we undermine the capitalist message that we need "things" to be happy. In celebrating each other, we threaten patriarchal systems through solidarity.
Cultivating the Life Force
Countless spiritual systems have acknowledged this quintessential life force. Yogic traditions call it Prana; Christians call it the Soul; ancient Egyptians referred to it as Ka. Regardless of the title, connecting to it is a significant step out of the patriarchal matrix.
Reminding ourselves that we are beings deserving of reverence, and not just respect, is essential. We are radiant souls, forces of creativity that manifest life and beauty. That energetic shift reverberates out, impacting everything and everyone in our lives.
