Memberships & Perks

Medusa Rising publishes women. We publish new work that shares or chimes with a radical materialist feminist framework by women of all backgrounds and from all continents to support women’s becoming and world building movement. We publish at a pace set for full absorption and integration of the offerings you.

Four to eight times a month you will see: writing in all genres, voice-only podcasts, and artwork. Some work will be free to all on our website since we want women everywhere fueled up for the work and for the joy. || Our long-term vision includes strengthening our witness and sisterhood, increasing flows of material support, and imagining new ways feminist organizations can coordinate globally obstruct the misogynist far-right and far-left and build the world women deserve.

We want to pay contributors, but we can't do that without reader support.

Medusa Rising accepts work by women in any genre on any feminist topic and in translation into English. Our call is open all year; we read all year; we usually respond in six weeks, and you are welcome to email us if you don't hear from us in that time 😄

Current focus & Genres

We're mostly – but not only – looking for shorter work, as heavy on the moxy/attitude/rizz as on the thought/knowledge/imagination.

Thought, critique, poetry, fiction, reporting, reviews of all cutlural production, speculations, futures, soulcraft, healing, history – about and around all the harms patriarchy does to women and all the feminist resistance women are giving our lives to.

We invite you to share work in any genre. We welcome works that combine or brushes the edges of any of genres and themes. Shout what needs shouting!

We accept pseudonyms to protect women's lives and livelihoods.

We suggest listening to our manifesto to get a sense of the perspective we bring to feminist movement and creativity.

Current Focus

NEW AND BEGINNING WRITERS. NEW AND BEGINNING FEMINISTS.
EXPERTS. ACTIVISTS. JOURNALISTS. ARTISTS. THEORISTS.
2ND WAVE OG RAD FEMS. YOUNG RAD FEMS. FEMINISTS OF THE WORLD.

  • Praise for your feminist inspriation! A woman. An event. A creation.
  • How did you become a feminist?
  • What is the most precious part of your feminism for you?
  • What do you want older or younger feminists to know or do?
  • How do you do your feminism?
  • What do you want feminists of other factions/ethnicities/countries to know or do?
  • Pick some part of the Manifesto RadMatFem, imagine what it could look like in action. All speculations welcome!

Don't see your thing? Want to share something else, from another direction, in another mood, about another topic, wider aperture, sharper vector? Cool. Here's an even bigger list of the deep fields we want to dance in!

Style Note

Audience: Please assume our readers have some background in feminist thought or activism, but are not experts. Imagine your readers will want to put your words into action in some way.

Tone: We prefer a casual, clever, and human voice. That combination of rigor and friendliness is the sweetspot. Jokes, puns, sarcasm, unvarnished truths, rage, and well-polished cursing are all welcome.

Purpose: We really like solutions, proposals, imagination, thriving, plans, luck, theory, successes, models that can be adapted. But, some problems are sticky and wicked and just have to be examined that way.

Expectations

Your subscriptions of $2 or $8 per month to Medusa Rising enable our support for feminist artists and writers. We give away a lot of content for free to support access for as many women as possible, so you can see that subscriptions are vital way to share this resource in solidarity.

A bit of expectation setting: We publish a maximum of 8 content posts per month. If we are publishing a series, that could run between 2-6 posts. We have a limited capacity for close editing as we are tiny staff. As our capacity increases, our pace of publication can increase as well. But we know there's cartloads of great feminist work going on. We do not want to overwhelm!

A few other feminist venues we admire (and there are many) are The Anti-Misogyny Club, Feminist Dissent, Total Woman Victory, She's Right You Know Substack, Restoration Magazine, Female.Liberation, Womens eNews, Brown Sugar, Women's Liberation Radio News (WLRN), Lilith Magazine, Matriarchy Times, Rewire, The Crunk Feminist Collective, Hawwa, Mistral, ... we could go on. Look in your regions, your languages, the venues and communities are there. We are not the only game in town, and we want your words to get in the world. Not all of these journals align closely with a RadMatFem framework, but connection beats isolation every time!

To you most courageous imagination!!!!
