Reading Circles Start 1 November

The playlist was fun to make with those sisters. Now, let's get a Medusa Rising Reading Circle rolling!

These private, live events are perks at the Pythia and Tiamat tiers at the Medusa Rising website. AND, from Halloween/31 Oct to Beltane/1 May these perks are included with the special offer of six months at the Pythia tier for $8 (and then back to $12 after 1 May 2026).

Events will be hosted by Esmée. Discussion is round table, all voices welcome. Specialist guests may be invited.

We hope you will read these books with your own unique lenses, moving into your own applications or imagining. We will open conversations with your highlights or general impressions of the books. About two weeks before each Reading Circle, we will email Pythia, Special Offer, and Tiamat members some questions to fall back on should we need them.

As with the playlist party, we will meet on Google Meet, take a vote on whether or not to record for a podcast, and dive on in.

We've learned of these books in conversations, in Discord servers, or have been waiting to read them for too long. What are these world-building books? Well, let us tell you!

Get HTDAD at Bookshop.org or your fave book store. The work this book describes applies across anti-domination and anti-extraction efforts. Replace 'Dictator' and 'Endo-ideal' with 'Male Default' and you're there. Some of us have dictators to take down, some of us have other patriarchal constructs to deconstruct and disempower. The thesis for this discussion is that they are enough alike for this anti-authoritarian playbook to speak to both the Patriarch(y) and the Tyrant/tyranny.

This next book is full of vital information, ways to make webs that might, just might, be strong enough to get us through the rougher future coming. If you have ideas for future Reading Circles, please email them along.

Get Adaptive Transformation at Penguin or your fave bookstore. We can all feel the planet sickening, the climate and our local ecologies becoming more chaotic. As with SHE-EDE programs for moving into matricultural regenerative and symbiotic world-building (we might include this pamphlet in the conversation), the Thurtopia folks are aiming for a sustainable (really) future. Even on the other side of collapse. They're not eco-feminists per se, but it's interesting to see how much eco-feminism infuses this work. So, our thesis for this Circle is that there is quite a lot of ecofeminism in these 'new' ecological pathways.

We found the next two for free/low cost, but if you can support the authors with a purchase, you will be supporting feminists in the world-building.

Get Dancing Goddess: Principles of a Matriarchal Aesthetic as a PDF from the Matriarchal Studies Institute. A world includes its economic and social infrastructure, its traditions and values, AND its symbolic culture. Let's think about the symbolic culture we want bring forth. Not so much a thesis this time, as a prompt: what does reading this book inspire you to do or make?

Get Feminist International at the reader supported, open-source Z/Library. Wanna build a global network of intentional feminist coalition and increase our effective power on behalf of all women? Me too. There's lots of wisdom and advice in this book. We've put it way out a year from now because it's a heavier lift, a little more academic in style, and wildly ambitious. Again, a prompt: what applications can you see your own or your organization's or Medusa Rising's work toward deep global feminist coaltions?

And that, our Gorgon loves, is our Reading Circle for this wheel of a year.
