About A’Ja Lyons
She is a nature writer born and raised in Sunnyside, the oldest African-American community in southern Houston, Texas. She earned a Bachelor of Liberal Studies and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing and Environment from Iowa State University. A’Ja was a 2021 Best of the Net nominee. She received a writing residency fellowship at the Writers Colony of Dairy Hollow. A’Ja was the first intern at Tulsa’s Greenwood Rising History Center in a partnership with the National Humanities Center.

Through vulnerable stories and sharp analysis, these women critique the political rhetoric of queer culture and share their vision of what true liberation and healing can look like for all of us.
The women featured in this book hail from all walks of life. We hear from detrans, lesbian, and bisexual women, women who are currently and formerly incarcerated, as well as artists, academics, mothers, and veterans.
